RESOURCES AND FACILITIES

The Laboratory of Biology is equipped with molecular biology facilities, tissue culture and flow-cytometers.  More specifically, the research group is supported by excellent tissue culture and immunohistochemistry facilities and quantitative molecular biology equipment (real time PCRs, Phosphoimagers, etc). More importantly, biophotonic live imaging technology of Xenogen with high sensitivity is also available in our laboratory. Medical School also has an advanced imaging unit equipped with confocal and deconvolution microscopy.

The Laboratory of Biology is equipped with excellent molecular and cellular biology facilities.

More specifically, the Laboratory of Biology is supported by:

  • Two fully equipped cell culture facilities
  • Flow cytometer (Becton Dickinson0
  • Wide-wavelength Spectophotometer
  • Real Time qPCR Instrument (sponsorship from Piraeus Bank)
  • Conventional PCR machine
  • Biophotonic live imaging technology of Xenogen with high sensitivity (IVIS Xenogen imaging system, PerkinElmer)
  • Hematology analyzer for laboratory animals
  • iBright imaging system for chemiluminescence visualization
  • -800 C freezer and multiple centrifuges etc.

In the most immediate priorities of the laboratory is the c.elegans unit operation.

In addition, the personnel from the Laboratory of Biology have access to the facilities of the Center of New Biotechnologies & Precision Medicine such as Mass Cytometry (CyTOF), Mass Spectometry (MS/MS) and Genomics, where Professor Iliopoulos is member of the Board of Directors.
