DEPARTMENT

The last two decades are marked with breakthrough discoveries in Biology. This progress, coupled with the tremendous advances in –omic technologies, is accelerating curiosity-driven basic research and is transforming Medicine and its applications.

The Department of Biology at the Medical School of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) was established in 2002 with the goal to pursue excellence in teaching of undergraduate and graduate students in Cellular, Molecular and Developmental Biology and Genetics and to promote high quality research in Biomedicine.

Our research activities are focused on the definition of basic molecular mechanisms and genetic factors underpinning physiological biological processes and pathological states. The Department of Biology aspires to broaden the interdisciplinary nature of modern biomedical research through interactions with disciplines that extend beyond the traditional boundaries of Biology to include Mathematics/Artificial Intelligence, Chemistry, Engineering and Bioinformatics.

We welcome you to our website.
